Two small planes approaching a municipal airport southeast of San Diego collided in midair Sunday, authorities said, killing four people and sparking grass fires in the area.
The crash, about two miles northeast of Brown Field, was reported around 11 a.m.. A twin-engine Sabreliner jet and a single-engine Cessna 172 collided as they approached the airport.
Emergency crews found wreckage from the two planes located about 15 miles southeast of downtown San Diego and about a mile north of the Mexican border. Two small grass fires were ignited by the crash debris, but firefighters extinguished them within an hour, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson said.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are slated to investigate the crash, informs Lenta.ru with the reference to USA Today. aerotime.aero
